The big event that attracted people towards Miami Beach real estate recently was of course the major Art Basel event that recently ended. For art aficionados who like to explore events that don’t quite fit into the mainstream, there was also the Fountain Art Fair. Although it ended earlier this month, this decidedly indie event is very much unlike the popular Art Basel.

The Fountain Art Fair was founded by John Leo and David Kesting back in 2006 and focuses heavily on being the “indie” art fair promoting obscure artists and galleries as opposed to the traditional art fairs that permeate in and around the Miami Beach condos and the rest of the city. The fair costs much less than traditional fairs and perhaps most intriguingly, installations are not limited to specific sites.

Some of the highlights of this year’s Fountain Art Fair were the giant video installation called “Legacy Fatale” by artist Corrine “Coco” Dolle and a fully functional sauna sitting on stilts created by a collective of artists from Finland and Estonia. Much like what you would find in Miami Beach condos such as the Fontainebleau, dance parties were also on full display with music by alternative hip hop musician G. Love and local Miami DJs. Because it takes place before Art Basel, the Fountain Art Fair s a great event to check out next year.
